When my wisdom teeth started to grow, my general dentist (in Slovakia) recommended extraction. The OPG showed that my lower wisdom teeth were not well positioned and could cause difficulties later, as they did not have enough space to grow. Despite this fact, a dental specialist recommended to keep the teeth as the nerve in the lower jaw was very close to the teeth and extraction could damage it, which could lead to temporary or permanent loose of sensation in the lower jaw.
During a regular check-up at Westcoast International I was strongly advised to remove both lower wisdom teeth. There wa
s a very high risk that their position could damage the molar teeth in front of them or cause bone loss due to gum inflammation. I was very worried about loosing the sensation of the lip which was a possible risk. Dr. Andrew Tsang explained that keeping them was not the best option and the sooner I do, the lower the risk. I was then accompanied by a member of staff to take a CT scan; this allowed Dr Andrew to see exactly where the nerve was located. To feel more comfortable I decided to have the extractions under IV sedation.
When the numbness from local anesthesia disappeared I could feel my lower lip and jaw perfectly. I was very relieved that the nerve had not been damaged. The recovery was very fast and I had only a small amount of discomfort for a couple of days.
I strongly doubt that anyone would have sent me for a CT scan in Slovakia and I am happy I did the treatment at Westcoast International.
I am very thankful to Dr. Andrew and his team for their care and professionalism. I only wish the clinic was not so far from Europe so I could come regularly.
