Westcoast International embraces the latest technology in order to achieve long term stable results in Implant Dentistry. Three most common complications in Implant Dentistry which are highly preventable are:
- Poor implant position. Poor position causes problems such as poor aesthetics, difficult for patients to floss or clean properly, poor contours on the implant tooth, food catching around the implant tooth… and many more. If the planned implant position is outside of the bone, the bone needs to be grafting to achieve the correct position for the implant tooth.
- Damage to adjacent teeth and anatomical structures such as the sinus and nerves. Going the wrong way or going too far can cause permanent damage to nearby structures.
- The screw inside the implant frequently gets loose. A misaligned dental implant may be subject to off axis forces which affect the screw inside the implant system. This is very troubling because the patient may need to seek an implant dentist to tighten frequently.
The technology we use in Vietnam that has helped prevent these 3 dental implant complications is Guided Implant Surgery and 3D planning software. In guided surgery, the implant position is predetermined. The drills and other dental tools used are restricted in not going too far and restricted to the correct planned direction.
Surgical implant guides allows less surgical time and the highest accuracy thereby simplifying the entire process. Dental implants should strive to prevent complications that may occur years after the surgery was completed.
In this example case, a dental implant is placed in the ideal position using a Surgical Guide. A bone graft is placed – predetermined and discussed with the patient. We no longer place dental implants simply where the bone exists and realizing later the position is wrong. We place based on the planned final tooth position and perform bone grafting procedures in order to avoid these three complications.
