The first step is knowing that you need an implant. Not everyone can have implants. You will need to make an appointment to see your dentist. The treatment time can be different at different clinic but it has the same basic process.
Step 1: Dental and General Health Evaluation and Information taking.
- Oral examination and general health evaluation for implant surgery (minor surgery).
- Impression taking for dental model and temporary tooth/teeth (Provisional restoration).
- Radiograph taking (Panoramic x-ray, Periapical x-ray, CT-scan).
- Photograph taking.
Step 2: Treatment plan discussion and Mouth Preparation.
- Treatment plans discussion.
- Mouth preparation for implants surgery (if neccessary).
- Professional teeth cleaning.
- Filling.
Step 3: Implant Surgery.
- Surgery normally performed under local anesthesia injection.
- During the surgery, patient may feel the vibration of implant drilling and some pressure but no pain.
- In this step, the Titanium Dental Implant will be placed into the jaw bone.
- Then Wait for Wound Healing
- Patient will be re-called for following up the wound healing and stitching off the stitches 7-14 days after Implant surgery.
- Temporary tooth/teeth (provisional restoration) will be made for patient only if it’s necessary.
- Wait for the bone to heal and attach around the Dental Implant for 3-9 months.
- Healing Period
- 3 months: For healthy patient, Good bone quality, No bone grafting, No smoking patient, Good implant stability.
- 6 months: For implant surgery with bone graft, not so good bone quality, patient over 50 years old, heavy smoking patient, un-healthy patient.
- 9 months: For implant surgery with Sinus lift and Bone graft in the upper jaw air sinus. For un-stable implant at surgery visit.
Step 4: Uncover the Implant and preparing for restoration.
- Open the gum to connect implant abutment or healing abutment on implant.
- Impression taking for crown fabrication.
- Then Wait 1-2 weeks
- Waiting for the gingiva (gum) to heal.
- Waiting for Dental Laboratory to make crown/bridge.
Step 5: Fitting the Crown and Cementation (Or Screw)
- Try in the crown (restoration).
- Cement/screw the crown on the Implant abutment.
